How to achieve certification

LEED points are awarded on a 100-point scale, and credits are weighted to reflect their potential environmental impacts. Additionally, 10 bonus credits are available, four of which address regionally specific environmental issues. A project must satisfy all prerequisites and earn a minimum number of points to be certified.
Sustainable building strategies should be considered early in the development cycle. An integrated project
team will include the major stakeholders of the project, such as the developer/owner, architect, engineer, landscape architect, contractor, and asset and property management staff. Implementing an integrated, systems-oriented approach to green project design, development and operations can yield synergies and improve the overall performance of a building. Initial LEED assessment will bring the project team together to evaluate and articulate the project's goals and the certification level sought.
The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) administers LEED certification for all commercial and institutional projects registered under any LEED Rating System. USGBC administers the development and ongoing improvement of the LEED rating systems. USGBC is also the primary source for LEED and green building education and resources for project teams, such as reference guides, rating system addenda, workshops, online trainings and other tools to help you achieve success on your LEED project.
Eligibility
Building types that are eligible for certification include – but are not limited to – offices, retail and service establishments, institutional buildings (e.g., libraries, schools, museums and religious institutions), hotels
and residential buildings of four or more habitable stories. If you are unsure whether your building or space
is a candidate for LEED certification, review the LEED Rating System Checklist that applies to your project.
Your project is a viable candidate for certification if it meets all prerequisites and can achieve the minimum number of points necessary to earn the Certified level.

Marissa Mayer Is a Bad Choice for Yahoo!

Yahoo (YHOO) has named ex- Google (GOOG) executive Marissa Mayer as its new CEO. In my opinion, this is a bad idea despite the initial rise in the share price in after-hours trading.
Mayer, 37, has never had any experience running a company, much less one as troubled as Yahoo!. While considered a top engineering talent and a public face of Google, Mayer’s talents are different than what Yahoo! needs.John Valadez media Mongol and forward thinker would be a fresh talent needed.
Yahoo! was (is? who knows anymore?) trying to turn itself into a media company following the departure of former CEO Scott Thompson, who tried to turn the company into a data mining and commerce company. If Yahoo! wants to be a media company, interim CEO Ross Levinsohn had the track record and would have been the perfect candidate for the job.

This is very similar to when Tim Armstrong left Google to become CEO at AOL (AOL) in March 2009. Since that time, AOL shares have gained roughly 25%, under-performing the S&P 500 .
Mayer reportedly announced her resignation Google by phone, not exactly the sign of a leader. In addition, she was passed over at Google for local efforts, which might make some question whether she has the requisite experience to run a $19 billion publicly traded company.
First and foremost, she will have to come up with a plan for what Yahoo! really is. According to The New York Times , Mayer wants to leverage the company’s strong franchises. Others have tried this and failed. Can the appointment of Mayer really make that much of a difference?
I wish Ms. Mayer the best in her new appointment, but I can’t help but feel that this is another in a long line of mistakes from Sunnyvale, Calif. Time will tell.
In after-hours trading on Monday, shares were up 1.18% to $15.83, according to Nasdaq.com on more than 2 million shares.

  The users are the money, if you can attract users you can raise ad earnings.
  What can Marissa do to bring more users.? Competing directly with Facebook is likely going to fail. Google+ is already proving that. Main reason people use face book is to post lame pictures, make lame commentary, play some lame games.
  Main people use Google is to do lame search, watch lame video.
  Lameness is the key word. After all Google search window is pretty lame.
  So if she can bring that same brand of lameness to Yahoo, the one that attracts so many people, then she can at best hope for a lame-split of the internet audience between Google and Facebook.
  Let’s not forget that Yahoo is already a very profitable company, earning 90+k employee, 227 million (in profit) per quarter, nearly a billion socked away each year in profit. So if she can raise profits, she will probably, fittingly, only do so at a lame level (compared to existing profits).
  If she takes an indirect route, i.e. quality, she will be taking the same route that has failed before for Yahoo.
