Google Looking to Hire 2,000 and Counting

Posted 11:45 AM 11/19/10 ,
Google is on the prowl for people -- and this time it has nothing to do with search customers. The Internet titan is looking to hire more than 2,000 new employees from San Francisco to New York to Ireland, according a Reuters report.

The hiring boom comes as the mature company competes for talent against young companies that have yet to go public and offer the potential of stock-option wealth.

Google (GOOG), which recently announced a company-wide 10% salary hike and bonus, is looking for software engineers and sales reps to administrative office workers. That's good news for any of the 9.4% of Americans who faced unemployment in October and have qualifications in those areas.

The Google workforce exceeded 23,300 at the end of the third quarter, according to the report. And the job openings have jumped nearly six-fold since Reuters' last tally in March 2009. Who needs jobs fairs at this rate?
