Sustainability and the Built Environment
Starts September 24
Explore sustainability as it relates to the built environment—from the economic, environmental and social-equity development perspectives. This introduction to the Green Building and Sustainable Design Certificate Program highlights large-scale planned communities, infill sites and individual structures from the U.S. and other nations, as well as how these buildings are serviced and managed.

Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems Design
Enroll by October 18 and complete by December 13.
Learn the basics of solar photovoltaic power systems for both residential and commercial systems, as well as solar system physics and technology, design and implementation.

Cogeneration and District Solutions
Enroll by October 22 and complete by November 10.
It has been suggested that about 20 percent of U.S. electricity could be made with heat that is currently thrown away by industry. Gain an overview of micro-cogeneration and district energy solutions for commercial and district applications.
Sustainable Transportation

This course starts with an introduction to sustainability and how it applies to transportation and explores some of the following topics in more detail: strategies to reduce trips and/or vehicle miles traveled; strategies to shift transportation modes from vehicles to transit, bicycling and walking; and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by modifying motorist behavior.

LEED Building Certification
Starts in November
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Rating Systems in building design and construction version 3.0 went into effect in spring of 2009. LEED BD&C combines three previous LEED rating systems: LEED-NC for new construction and major renovations, LEED for schools, and LEED-CS for core and shell. Gain an in-depth understanding of the new LEED BD&C rating systems, the process to document and obtain certification and prepare to take accreditation exams.
