Internet, Film, and Media Fellowship: Oct, 2010 - March, 2011
1Sky (www.1Sky.org) is a highly collaborative national campaign in the United States catalyzing a society-wide movement in support of bold federal action to jumpstart a clean energy economy and tackle global warming pollution. The 1Sky campaign was formed in 2007 and now combines over 600 allied organizations nationwide and a team of 37 including organizers in 19 states in a campaign driven by powerful field and organizing, voter education, and Internet and communications strategies to communicate a highly visible public demand for Congress and the president to take bold action. 1Sky has 15 staff in its national headquarters located in Takoma Park, MD.
1Sky is seeking a smart, hard-working, and technically proficient Internet, Film, and Media fellow for a three or six-month paid fellowship with our Internet Team. This fellow will help develop and maintain a cutting-edge website, implement online education and advocacy campaigns, and ensuring the visibility and impact of 1Sky. S/he reports to the Online Communications Coordinator, and works closely with the Internet Director and Online Communications Associate. Successful applicants will enjoy a career-enriching experience to produce published Web-related content, video, and projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gather images and text for website content pages and content calendars
- Create online campaign update videos on a bi-weekly basis
- Maintain marketing and promotional efforts with various video channels
- Create rapid response campaign items for website (images, action forms, tell-a-friend pages)
- Assist with social network posts and updates on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr
- Author 1-2 blog posts per week, including weekly round-up post
- Maintain monthly reports
- Log all external blog mentions and press hits lists
- Research climate material for blog postings, social networks, content
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Background in Microsoft Office, Basic HTML code, Internet search, and social media sites (Twitter and Facebook usage is recommended)
- Digital video filming and editing skills; familiarity with video channels such as YouTube and Vimeo
- Interest in authoring and searching through various blogs aggregators and search sites
- Experience with image or photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop or Pixelmator) is a plus
- Working towards or having completed Bachelors degree in Communications, English, Marketing, Public Relations or related field preferred
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Interest in environmental or climate-related issues, online grassroots organizing, or nonprofit online communications
- Self-starter who enjoys tackling new projects with minimal supervision
- Enjoy working under pressure, under deadline, and can think quickly on your feet
- Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, optimism, and flexibility
- Patience, a sense of humor, and good social interaction skills
START DATE: Monday, Oct 4
SALARY: Monthly stipend
